Weekly Drawings, Game Zine 2 begin

Hey everybody,

Another week down and another chunk of dailies. I started off with a copic doodle for Splatoon, did some digital stuff in the middle, and finished off with some ink sketches.

I started using small Moleskin sketchbooks for when I’m out and about as most of my harcover sketchbooks are too large to be conveniently transported.

Also for those of you that have swung by my booths at various cons since the Summer Windsor Comicon last year have probably seen my Game Item Zine, it was the first volume in a series dedicated to games I grew up with and still enjoy today. Volume 1 was all about Items, weapons and things your characters would use within various games. Volume 2 will be all about enemy monsters. I’m really excited to be working on this one and will be going for a full colour book this time vs the previous black and white. Each page within the book will be a specific monster from a specific game, the overall size of the zine has not been decided because I’m still trying to figure out the complete roster.

I will post some mock up pages in the future to give you the idea but here are some of the images I’ve been working on.

Over the next few months I’ll be posting a lot of progress works from the zine so get ready for that.

And now less art stuff (kinda art stuff)

I was working on a way to try and organize my copics rather than have them just sitting all over the place, I know they make clear grid cases for them but haven’t been able to find any yet. Yesterday I got this Art of Final Fantasy collection in the mail. It’s awesome, covering games I-X. Yoshitaka Amano has amazing ink work, it’s really cool to see the monster designs for the first few games and how they became staples for the entire series.

Anyways, that’s all for now.

See you next week!

Daily Doodles Going Colour

Hey Everybody!

Hope everyone had an exciting week. I started working on a new show this week called Fugget About It, it’s pretty funny, you should watch it. Also last weekend I went to SchoolismLive Toronto which was an amazing experience to learn from great artists and to meet some new people. The daily doodles have continued and I’ve started playing around with colour in them instead of just greys like the Pokemon were.

photo 1 photo 2 photo 3 photo 4 photo 5

So at first I continued on with the Pokemon theme because of a request from a friend.

photo 1 (1) photo 2 (1) photo 2 (3) photo 4 (1) photo 2 (2) photo 1 (2) photo 3 (2)

Then I switched it up to more character stuff. Lucas was announced for Smash Bros yesterday so I was pretty excited about that. Stiltzkin is my favourite Moogle from Final Fantasy IX so I wanted to draw him.

photo 1 (3) photo 3 (3) photo 5 (1) photo 3 (1)

Then some original stuff. I made a little test poster image for a mini comic I’m working on set in the same universe as Super Space Boy Adventures (Which has begun updating again at http://www.comics-that-exist.com).

From the Schoolism Weekend I was able to get a Breaking Bad print signed by Stephen Silver which I think is pretty cool.

So if you like the stuff I posted up here you can follow my dailies all over the place including:

Gotta Catch Um All (Finale)

Hey Everybody!

Sorry for no post last Saturday, Kris and I were at Toronto Comicon. Thanks to everybody who swung by our booth and checked out our stuff. We had a great time and met a ton of cool people, but more on that later.

As you all know I’ve been slowly working through the original 151 Pokemon as daily doodles, and have finally come to the end. I want to say thanks to everyone who stuck around for the whole process and supported the pieces. So here it goes…

Hope you enjoyed those!

Now for Comicon goodness.

Above is a picture of our booth, look at how fancy it is. We had a great time meeting new and exciting folk and we will be at Fan Expo Toronto this summer (more information to come in the future) as well as some other cons.

photo 3 (4)

I did a bunch of Yoshi prints, because Yoshi is rad.

One thing I always like to do at conventions is check out the other artists work in artist alley, so when I get a chance to get away from the table I go out into the wilds and buy stuff.

photo 3 (5)photo 2 (3)

Lots of cool zines and comics this year as well as some postcards and an original sketch of Hellboy that is super cool. I also came across some really cool resin sculptures, which I will be painting up sometime in the future.

The convention was great but when I got home I immediately got sick, which I suppose is part of being around a ton of people. But the next day I received a cool package in the mail from one of my favourite artists Jake Parker.

The two books are “Inktober” and his newest art book “Drawings II”. Both are amazing books that you should definitely check out.

Also last week I wrapped up on the show I`ve been working on for the last year, Daniel Tiger`s Neighborhood. It was a great experience and gave me the opportunity to learn and work with a lot of super amazing people. I start my next project next week but just wanted to take a second to let you know what I`ve been up to.

Thanks for everybody who stuck it through this long winded post. See you all next week!

Gotta Sketch Um All Part 6 (And Comicon News)

Hey Everybody,

As I’ve mentioned briefly in previous posts Kris and I will be at Toronto Comicon this weekend (March 20-22) in Artist Alley booth A157.

photo 3

Look at this handy map in case you’re having trouble navigating through the sea of people.

And then there is Pokemon daily doodles, slowly but surely reaching the end.

It will probably take another couple weeks before I get them done and then the dailies will switch to different subject matter.

Hope to see everybody at Comicon! There will be at least one more post about that before then showing some of the new prints we’ll have available.

Gotta Sketch Um All Part 5

Hey everybody!

Another weekly update is upon us. Passed the 2/3 mark on the Pokemon sketches this week. It’s been a lot of fun but I’m looking forward to finishing them up. Also passed my childhood favourite pokemon in this batch, Cubone.

photo 1photo 2photo 3photo 4photo 5photo 1 (2) photo 2 (2)photo 3 (2)photo 4 (2)photo 5 (2)photo 1 (3) photo 2 (3)photo 3 (3)photo 4 (3)photo 5 (3)photo 1 (4)    photo 2 (4)       photo 4 (4)    photo 5 (4)  photo

There was a big sale at my local art store this weekend so needless to say I bought a bunch of stuff, and will probably buy more today. I have a problem…

photo 3 (4)

Also Kris and myself will be at Toronto Comicon March 20-22 at booth A157 in the artist alley, I’ll make a post this week with more info and a little map. Hope to see you all there!

Gotta Sketch Um All Part 4

Hey Everybody!

Hope you all had a good week. This post will be another daily doodle sketch round-up. I was slightly busy at work with additional projects taking up most of my evenings but here are the doodles from the week!

photo 1photo 2photo 3photo 4photo 5photo 1 (2) photo 2 (2)photo 3 (2)photo 4 (2)photo 5 (2)photo 1 (4) photo 2 (4)  photo 4 (4)photo 5 (4)photo 2 (3)    photo 3 (3)   photo 4 (3)    photo 5 (3)   photo

Slowly but surely making it through these Pokemon doodles, I’ve been enjoying the ride but can’t wait to finish and get back to other subject matter. Also now that I’ve started using these copic markers I’ve been wanting to do a lot more traditional colour pieces so I’ve started gathering more.

photo 3 (4)

And then on the not art side I finally received my Mega Man Amiibo, I didn’t want to support/deal with scalpers so I just ordered a japanese version. Worth it.

photo 1 (3)

So I guess that’s the weekend round up. Kris and I will be doing Comicon Toronto March 20-22, more info on that and our new products to come.

Have a good one!

Gotta Sketch Um All Part 3

Hey Everybody!

It’s been a crazy week of pokemon sketching and animation learning goodness. First off here are the Pokemon doodles from this week. Half way through the week I went out an purchased some Copic Markers as I was not happy with the previous markers showing my brush strokes. I ended up liking the Copic’s a lot and thing I will be working with them a lot more in the future.

photo 1photo 2photo 3photo 4photo 5photo 1 (2) photo 2 (2)photo 3 (2)photo 4 (2)photo 5 (2)photo 1 (6)photo 2 (6)photo 3 (6)photo 4 (5)photo 5 (5)photo 1 (5)photo 2 (5)photo 3 (5)photo 4 (4)photo 5 (4)photo 1 (4)photo 2 (4)photo 3 (4)photo 4 (3)photo 5 (3)photo 1 (3)      photo 2 (3)      photo 3 (3)

So those are the pokemon for this week, as well as the Copics I picked up. I also got a cool package of records from Spartan Records.
